Milwaukee: hankr highlights Metcalfe's Wauwatosa Doughnuts

What better way to start your day than a smorgasbord of delectable doughnuts? The answer: There is no better way. The hankr team took it upon ourselves to delve into Metcalfe’s unique, artisan-quality doughnuts and now have our status set to “in a relationship” with Metcalfe’s Tosa.

Our first savory breakfast item was the Salted Caramel Doughnut. Take what you’re picturing and multiply that times 100. It was THAT good. The sweetness of the caramel frosting matched with the granules of salt was the perfect chemistry.

Next up was the Cookies & Cream, cream-filled doughnut. Sweet tooth hankr-ers, we’ve found your new favorite breakfast. The doughnut itself was made with chocolate batter, filled with just the right amount of cream. Top that with vanilla frosting and cookie crumbles and you’ve got yourself an Oreo in doughnut form!

Pivoting from the chocolate side of things, yet carrying on the filled-doughnut theme, we tried the Lemon Strawberry Long John next. The strawberry frosting was sweet and refreshing and the inside was filled with a lemon-bar-type filling that created a summery concoction. With winter looming in the near future, we will definitely be back for this taste of summer to give us a ray of sunshine!

The Maple Bacon Long John was also an interesting and delicious juxtaposition of flavors. With the sweet, maple flavored frosting sprinkled with the savory bits of bacon, this donut covered all the breakfast bases!

If you’re looking for a doughnut that will satisfy any hungry hankr-ers tastebuds, look no further! Metcalfe’s has outdone themselves with their S’mores doughnut. You obviously can’t go wrong with a doughnut that’s made fresh everyday with the perfect consistency, but to make it even better Metcalfe’s tops this one with marshmallow-based frosting, a drizzle chocolate and Golden Grahams cereal to give it a little crunch!

Finally, we found room in our stomachs for Metcalfe’s Elvis Has Left the Building doughnut. What does that all entail, you ask? Well, for starters - peanut butter frosting. ‘Nuf said. Add drizzled chocolate and top with crisp banana chips and you’ve got yourself a doughnut that did not disappoint!

We know what you’re thinking. How could we possibly deal with the stress of consuming all these doughnut delicacies?? Well, we get by with a little help from our friends. In more ways than one! It’s a team effort, but we also look to you to get ideas for what to try next! Have a restaurant you want hankr to feature? Let us know and we’ll make it happen!
