Doing all things seafood to perfection, it's no surprise that Pier 106 also conquered this traditional Creole dish with the same quality of success. This Louisiana-inspired dish is made with chicken, shrimp, Andouille sausage, and Spanish rice and a touch of spice to keep your wits about you!
9. Fat Bastard - SafeHouse
We at hankr want to go on record to say that we do not condone such aggressive and offensive name calling and will not support it under any circumstances <sarcasm font>. However. If forced to indulge in SafeHouse's killer combination of brownie bits, chocolate cake, and ice cream topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, AND a sparkler, we might acquiesce...
SafeHouse with another top-10! We're starting to get a little suspicious...they have intelligence everywhere. Who's to say they don't use it to get into hankr's illustrious rankings? As suspicious as we are, we choose to shove our skepticisms under the proverbial rug and take what they give us at face value. Which is this comforting dish of Cavatappi pasta tossed in a creamy cheese sauce with tender chicken, pepper bacon, broccoli and chipotle peppers and loaded with garlic bread crumbs. Yep, our suspicion is nowhere to be found.
We know them for their irresistible tacos that occupy all our thoughts on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but BelAir slips onto our brunch radar like a thief in the night! Who knew they did brunch this well?? We're just glad we found out sooner rather than later! And it looks like our hankr fam recognized BelAir's stellar brunch options too. Congrats to BelAir on getting in the top-10 with their breakfast! The Huevos Rancheros consist of tortillas stuffed with mozzarella cheese, guajillo sauce, two eggs over easy, crema, avocado, and pico and included is a free wave of rice and beans as per usual. BelAir, you treat us so well.
6. O.D.D. Burger - Miller Time Pub & Grill
Now, clear your mind of any connotations you may have with the attention-grabbing name of this Miller Time Pub & Grill iconic burger. "O.D.D." simply stands for the Original Double Decker, a straightforward burger with two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, and cheese, all on a 3-layer sesame seed bun. You have our attention, Miller Time.
This is the "OG" of BelAir burritos so we're happy it's getting the recognition it deserves this month! We know BelAir does all burritos well, but there's something to be said about a tried and true favorite that never quits - chipotle shrimp, citrus slaw, corn salsa, pico, rice, cilantro, chipotle ancho mayo, salsa roja, queso fundido. #represent
4. Wisconsin Fish Fry - Miller Time Pub & Grill
Speaking of tried and true, no dish can represent Wisconsin better than a good 'ol fish fry. Miller Time takes the cake with this one, even using Miller beer batter to coat their fish! Fried haddock is served with roasted poblano tartar, three cabbage coleslaw, potato pancakes and applesauce. An oldie but a goodie!
If you're looking for fresh and classic, look no further. Pier 106 does their Lobster Roll so well you'd think you were on the shores of the Atlantic instead of Lake Michigan. A generous serving of lobster meat, and a tarragon aioli on a New England pull-apart bun with a side of either fries or a salad blows us out of the water with flavor and just the right amount of tang.
All these acronyms paired with burgers! How will we ever keep them straight!? No worries with this one though, B.Y.O is standing for "Build Your Own" - nothing too complicated. It may not be complicated, but it's far from simple. Start with a house made 1/2 lb. Angus patty and pile on your choice of delectable toppings ranging from crisp bacon and fresh lettuce to fried eggs and melted cheese!
1. Buttermilk Fried Chicken Waffle - Cafe Benelux
The top dish for July is not a rookie in our monthly rankings - Cafe Benelux's Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffle not only appears again, but moves up to #1 (from the 4th spot last month)! Given that this is the second time it's been featured, I think we can safely say this is a "gotta have" dish for our hankr fam. With a fluffy waffle, crisp fried chicken, candied walnuts, and covered in syrup, it's no wonder it's the best of the best!
We also wanted to give a shoutout to these two delicious plates who earned their ranking near the top for the second month and solidified their spots as some of hankr's best, most delectable dishes! It's the Artichoke Pizza from St. Francis Brewery and the Breakfast Hodgepodge courtesy of Cafe Benelux. Well done!
It's crazy how much can change in a month! In July, we've added three new restaurants to hankr as well as reshot a few restaurants' menus to be updated with changes and additions. It's an exciting time to be a part of this ever-growing organization! We can't wait to see what this next month of August will bring.
In the meantime, keep it simple. See. Eat. Love.
